Ndoro Double Band Bangle

Our silver Ndoro double bangle is made in Zimbabwe. There are two hand-made bangles that are joined together with a little Ndoro charm. The stylized Ndoro is hand-cut into the silver disc one little dot at a time.

Our stylized Ndoro takes its inspiration from the "currency" that was used during the height of the Empire of Great Zimbabwe. During this time the Portuguese were trading in East Africa and traded these Ndoros with the people of Great Zimbabwe for gold, ivory, and other trade items. (I've posted one of these Ndoros in our pictures so that you can see what the original ones look like).

The bangles are made from round silver "wire" that is approx 2 mm in diameter so the two bangles together make it about 4 mm. The Ndoro Charm is 15 mm in diameter and approximately 2 mm thick which makes it a nice chunky little charm. The Ndoro is hand-cut into both sides.

This is a great Zimbabwean gift for lovers of African symbols and Zimbabwean art. Our jewellery boxes are actually lovely little sisal and ilala palm baskets. These are bought from ladies in the rural areas in the south of Zimbabwe from local ladies and women's groups that promote self-sufficiency.
